Treehouse Community

Treehouse California

It's time to replicate!

The first Treehouse Community opened in Easthampton, Massachusetts in 2006. After ten years of experience and evaluation, multiple national awards and honors and tremendous outcomes for the children, parents and elders, Treehouse is ready to bring the model west.

Over 60,000 children and youth are in foster care across California and many of them are still waiting for their forever families. So Treehouse has partnered with MidPen Housing, one of California’s largest and most established non-profit developers of affordable housing, to bring this innovative community to the San Francisco Bay Area.  Working closely with Santa Clara County leaders, the first Treehouse California will be built in the heart of the Silicon Valley with an eye to replicate on other California communities.

Expanding the model

Each year in California 3,500 Transition-Age Youth (TAY) will exit foster care without ever having found a permanent family or community connection. These young people are the fastest homeless growing population in the state and are at risk of lives of poverty, incarceration, and worse.

Treehouse California will provide homes and permanent, caring connections for TAY ages 18 – 24. At Treehouse they will receive the supportive services they need to successfully transition into adulthood in a nurturing intergenerational community as valued community and family members.
